SOW:Brand Profile Development, Brand Book Development, Packaging Development
Soul Coal manufactures and distributes eco-charcoal sustainably sourced from naturally regenerating Leleshwa trees on the Ol Ari Nyiro Conservancy in Laikipia. With the proliferation of Leleshwa trees and the need to burn them to create fire breaks on the conservancy land, Soul Coal saw an opportunity to utilize the wood to produce high quality charcoal that does not harm the environment, thereby helping to fight the trade of charcoal sourced from the illegal burning of forests.
Our Role
We undertook the brand birth of Soul Coal, providing a comprehensive engagement that began with the development of the brand profile followed by visual identity creation, packaging design and all necessary stationary and brand collateral. The important story and purpose behind Soul Coal charcoal really inspired and motivated us to deliver a visually unique and compelling piece of packaging that integrated the narrative of sustainability, environmental protection and wildlife in one cohesive design that offers consumers fun, engagement and education,
Outcomes
Soul Coal packaging sets a new standard in charcoal packaging design, introducing a product to market that combines form, function and storytelling to share and support the vital message of conservation and protection of flora and fauna in Kenya. In an industry in Kenya that largely focuses on utility, function and production by any means, Soal Coal’s visual presentation, brand values and production processes are a paradigm shift in the Kenyan charcoal industry. With logistics and production on-going Soul Coal will hit supermarket shelves in 2021.
